Thematic Districts of Expo 2020
About the Project
Designed by Hopkins Architects, the Thematic Districts of Expo 2020 Dubai form three interconnected urban areas dedicated to Opportunity, Mobility and Sustainability. Extending from the central Al Wasl Plaza, the districts combine contemporary architecture with principles inspired by traditional Arabian urban design, including shaded pedestrian streets, landscaped courtyards and public gathering spaces.
A defining feature of the project is its series of distinctive, palm-inspired shading structures. Their geometric forms create a changing interplay of light and shadow, bringing rhythm and character to the streets and public spaces.
Having spent several years documenting Expo 2020 Dubai, my photographic approach focused on the relationship between architecture, light and human scale. This series captures the geometry of the districts, the architectural details of their façades and canopies, and the atmosphere of the spaces that connected visitors throughout the Expo site.
