Moon Retreat, Sharjah
About the Project
Architectural and Aerial Photography in the Mleiha Desert
Set within the dramatic desert landscape of Mleiha, Sharjah, Moon Retreat is a distinctive hospitality destination where contemporary structures meet the natural beauty of the Arabian desert.
Developed by the Sharjah Investment and Development Authority (Shurooq), the retreat features a collection of geodesic domes and private tents thoughtfully positioned among the dunes and rugged mountain formations.
The retreat's architectural character is defined by its geometric structures, minimal visual footprint and relationship with the surrounding terrain. The contrast between the pale domes, warm desert sands and rocky landscape creates a compelling visual composition.
Through architectural and aerial photography, Dany Eid explores the retreat's geometry, spatial arrangement and connection to the landscape. The photographs reveal how the structures become part of a much larger natural setting, with changing light bringing depth, texture and atmosphere to the desert.
Architecture Within the Desert Landscape
Moon Retreat offers an interesting dialogue between contemporary hospitality design and the raw environment of Mleiha.
Viewed from above, the arrangement of the domes, pathways and surrounding terrain reveals a series of geometric patterns set against the organic forms of the desert. At ground level, the structures create a strong visual contrast with the natural colours and textures of the landscape.
The photographic series focuses on this relationship between built form and nature, documenting how architecture can establish its own identity while remaining visually connected to its environment.
