Khorfakkan Amphitheatre
About the Project
Khorfakkan Amphitheatre sits at the foot of the Hajar Mountains on Sharjah’s east coast, and it is one of the most photogenic pieces of architecture on the Gulf of Oman.
The amphitheatre takes its cues from Roman design. Tiered stone seating curves around a central stage, framed by a repeating rhythm of arches. It covers more than 1,700 m² and seats around 3,500 people. Beside it, a 45-metre man-made waterfall runs down a face of carved natural rock. From the air, the stone, water and mountains come together in a striking composition.
This aerial photography project was commissioned by the Sharjah tourism authorities, and my images were featured on a stamp sheet issued by Emirates Post.
